Forrest Gump Ultramarathon in Zagreb

Croatian Times

Taking inspiration from Tom Hanks' character in the cult film Forrest Gump, The "Forrest Gump Ultramarathon", in its 7th year in Croatia, is set to take place in Croatia's capital Zagreb on Saturday.

The race starts at 9am at Zagreb's Bundek Lake and anybody who wishes to run one lap with the runners is welcomed to do so between 5 and 6pm. Dragan Jankovic, marathon runner, organiser and president of the Sljeme Athletics club, explains the event's unique name.

"If you have seen the film Forrest Gump, you will definitely remember the excellent running scene, where Forrest suddenly has the idea that he needs to run. When asked why he is running, is it for a special reason? for world peace?, Forrest simply answers everybody with - becasue I feel like running," said Jankovic.
