Croatian gay and lesbian associations have condemned Croatian Football Federation president Vlatko Markovic after he said there was no place for homosexuals in the national team.
"While I'm a president of the Croatian Football Federation, there will be no homosexuals playing in the national team", Vlatko Markovic said in an interview with Croatian national daily Vecernji List.
Asked whether in his career he has met a homosexual footballer, he has replied:
"Luckily, only normal people play football".
Gay and lesbian associations have informed the Croatian media that they will sue the Football Federation President for discrimination. They also intend to report Vlatko Markovic to UEFA.

This is exactly the kind of reason why we shouldn't let these backward Eastern Europeans peasants into the EU

There is no room in the 21st century for this type of short sighted mentality. Mr. Markovic, civilize yourself!

Shame on him. I hope FIFA do something about this and don't just sweep it under the rug.

Ohhh, that's horrible. And that quote is, too. But I expected this website to only have good news, to tell the truth, because I thought it was sort of a tourist site where they'd only want to show the good parts of Croatia. So I commend the website for publishing bad news. :)

This guy is an old dinosaur and should be moved aside for someone that lives in todays world. Not only is this guy corrupt but a bigot as well, Croatia may be doing fairly well on the pitch but in advertising revenue and exposure its no where near the other teams in the top ten list. Hopefully this latest tirade by this old man is his last and he's forced aside.

The legislators in the USA senate who have supported the strongest anti gay bills have turned out to be homosexuals themselves trying to hide their sexual orientation. Could this be the case with Vlatko Markovic.

I think a "red card" from FIFA is justified here. A ban on a gay playing for Croatia is bad enought, but: "Luckily, only normal people play football" is even worse. The guy should be sacked.
