Top skating competition to go ahead

Croatian Times

A top ice-skating competition almost cancelled because of the financial crisis will go ahead as planned, it has been revealed.

The 42nd Golden Spin ice skating competition featuring more than 70 top skaters from across the world will be held from 10 – 12 December at the Dom Sportova arena in Zagreb, organisers confirmed yesterday (Thurs).

There had been speculation authorities would not be able to hold the competition because of the financial crisis. But local sports federations reportedly stepped in to help to make sure it went ahead.

For the most of skaters the Zagreb competition will be the last major tournament before the 2010 Olympics in Vancouver.
