Croatian football side Hajduk Split waited for 65 years to pay the British army back.
Hajduk Split defeated the British army team by a score of 9-1 in a friendly played in Split yesterday (Tues).
The match was played to commemorate the match between the same two opponents in 1944. At that time, the entire Hajduk Split team had escaped from occupied Yugoslavia and was in Bari, Italy, where they played a friendly with a British army team. The Brits won that game by a score of 7-2.
Despite the friendly atmosphere, the Croats considered their overwhelming victory as a bit of revenge for the Croatian national team's 1-5 defeat earlier this month by England at Wembley in a World Cup qualifier.
