Ashley Colburn to Croatian Times: I was blown away by Croatia's beauty

Croatian Times

One of American television's brightest young talents, effervescent producer Ashley Colburn, the star behind the Emmy Award winning travel documentary "WOW Croatia" and the new 7-part documentary series "Wonders of Croatia", which is about to air all over the world, has talked to Croatian Times about the country she has fallen in love with ever since seeing photos of Croatia's spectacular Plitivice Lakes National Park.

"My brother backpacked around Europe and when I was looking at his photos and saw Plitvice Lakes, I asked him where that was and said I must go to that country," said Colburn.

Colburn first came to Croatia in 2009 to film the Emmy Award winning travel documentary "WOW Croatia" and was back again for three months last summer to film her latest documentary, "Wonders of Croatia", which is 7 one-hour shows focusing on 7 different regions of Croatia. The series, which will be screend on Croatian television on 28 August, sees the bubbly American visit the regions of Slavonia, Central Croatia, Kvarner, Istria, Northern Dalmatia, Split and Dubrovnik.

Colburn was blown away by Croatia's natural beauty and in particular the cuisine all over the country, and the attractive 25 year-old Californian says she never went hungry during her stay. "From the seafood on the coast to the cured meats in Slavonia, I never went hungry. The food is beautiful and natural. In the United States natural food is trendy but its not natural, in Croatia its all so natural," says Ashley.

Colburn, who visited most of Croatia's beautiful islands for her latest documentary series, including the island of Korcula where she learnt about the history of Marco Polo and "sampled a special Marco Polo cookie", describes Croatia's Adriatic coast as like "one gigantic swimming pool", nicer than the sea in her home town California, which she says is alot colder with strong waves and nowhere near as blue.

When asked what her favourite place in Croatia is, Colburn says that the northern Adriatic city of Rovinj is her number one, closely followed by the southern Dalmatian island of Hvar and Croatia's captial Zagreb. The Emmy award winning producer, who has been holidaying in Croatia, says she will be back.

"I will definitely be back in Croatia, it will be just for a holiday. Alot of the time I have been here has been working so I will come back and just enjoy."
