The Marco Polo Museum has opened in the town of Korcula on the southern Dalmatian island of Korcula, giving visitors an original insight into the journeys and adventures of the famous Korcula merchant traveler Marco Polo, who in the 13th century visited what was then far away and unknown China.
Visitors to the museum will have a chance to pass through seven scenes, which through superb scenery, hyper realistic silicon figures and an audio guide, present Marco Polo's life, from his departure from Korcula, through caravans in the desert, to the famous palace of the ruler of the Mongol Empire Kublai Khan.
The concept for the museum was realised by Rudolf Petrinec, after the young entrepreneur travelled the world visting famous museums, reports Croatian radio station Radio 101.
"I realised then that our tourism was lacking things that would enhance our cultural offerings and help increase the number of tourists," said Petrinec, adding that the silicon figures used in the museum are the same quality as those used in hollywood films.
Entry to the Marco Polo Musuem is 60 kuna (8 Euros), and in continuing with the tradition of developing the friendship between east and west, Chinese tourists can enter free of charge.
