What might be the oldest Croatian soap opera, 75 year-old film "Lied der Adria" (The Song of the Adriatic), will be screened at Film Evenings in Pucisca on the Dalmatian island of Brac tonight (Mon) 6 August, reports Jutarnji list.
Kinofon Associations Leon Rizmaul and Daniel Rafaelic, who specialise in finding rare and forgotten Croatian films in film archives all over the world, were responsible for finding this particular cinematic jewel in the German Film Archive (Bundesarchiv). The film was shot in 1938 in the coastal town of Split and its surroundings.
Directed by Hans Beck-Gaden, "Lied der Adria" features well known waterpolo player Miro Mihovilovic and Split beauty Desa Marovic starring as a poor young man and the girl he falls in love with. Music was composed by famous Croatian composer Ivo Tijardovic. Tijardovic even encorporated a jazz version of popular Croatian songs 'Marjane, Marjane' and 'Jute san se zaljubija' in the film.
