Croatian Times

One of the most significant cultural festivals in Croatia, The Split Summer Festivial or Splitsko Ljeto, in its 58th year, will feature more than 500 participants when it is on in the picturesque Dalmatian seaside city from 14 July until 14 August, reports website dalje.com.

The diverse programme during the month long festival includes impressive theatrical performances at the Croatian National Theatre in Split and at numerous open air stages, classical music concerts, operas, puppet shows and dance performances.

The main feature of this year's festival will be the return to the Peristil, after three years of renovation, which will see the premier of the opera "Nabucco" by Giuseppe Verdi on the opening day of the festival.

"Split Summer Festival will be the epicenter of the great theater workshop," said festival director Niksa Bareza, adding "The return of Verdi's 'Nabucco' to the Peristil is a special event because it is a work that has coalesced with the space outstanding acoustics."
