What is today´s ideal Croatian woman?

Croatian Times

The ideal Croatian woman earns a little but is lot more concerned about her husband and children, the latest GfK research shows.

A GfK survey of 1,000 Croats found that Croatian men want their women to work, but at a less- demanding job.

The survey question was: In your opinion, what is today’s ideal Croatian woman?

Interestingly, a successful business woman who has built a career and takes care of her family with the help of her husband was the ideal woman for 40 per cent of Croatian men in 2007.

Now, three years later, the situation has changed a lot.

A strong and independent woman who wants a career, a good job and equality with her partner has fallen to second place and is the ideal for only 34 per cent of Croatian men.

Today, the most-desirable woman is the one who earns some money, but in a less demanding job that allows her to take care of family and children.

Even 39 percent of all respondents now believe that it is best that a woman work but do something that does not require a lot of responsibility.

But, it is interesting that even 28 percent of women would rather be unemployed and take care of children and families, and only 20 percent want a career.

It is my opinion that both the man and the woman are, in principle entitled to follow their respective career. Yet, before entering the married state, the couple should reach an agreement on how to conduct their careers without ruining their married life. As long as there are no children, the couple must ensure that they have enough time to enjoy each other's company and discuss each other's problems. When there are children, at least one parent should be at home, physically and mentally with them, at any time of the day and night; and, again the two must be available for each other at reasonable times; and therefore the careers should allow for this requirement.
