Squid millennium photo by Sime Strikoman

Around 600 neurologists from all over the world formed the shape of a squid
for an aerial photograph yesterday (Mon) in Dubrovnik.
They gathered in front of Sponza Palace and along the most-famous street in Dubrovnik, Stradun, to form a squid.
It was a project for the so-called 188th Millennium Photo named "Adriatic Squid on Stradun" by Croatian photographer Sime Strikoman.
The neurologists were attending the "17th International Conference on Biomagnetism BIOMAG2010" at Hotel Libertas in Dubrovnik.
The project was supported by the city of Dubrovnik, the Dubrovnik Tourist Board, the utilities of the city of Dubrovnik and firefighters.
The shape of a squid was chosen for the photo because the word squid has meant superconducting quantum interference devices (SQUIDS) for the bio-magnetism community for the last four decades. The devices have made the entire field not only possible but increasingly important.
SQUIDs are the crucial elements of neuromagnetometers that monitor task-related brain activities in real time.
The millennium photo of the giant human squid is a tribute to James Zimmerman, who co-invented SQUID, and to David Cohen and other researchers who measure magnetic signals.
