Pozega

´Golden strings of Slavonia´ festival begins

Croatian Times

The most famous festival of traditional Croatian string instrument 'tamburica' will be held this week from 4-7 September in Pozega, Croatia.

According to the festival art director Tomislav Jakobovic, the organisers of ‘Golden strings of Slavonia’ traditionally expected around 50,000 visitors in four festival days.

Some 44 singers and groups will perform on the special stage designed by the most famous Croatian set designer Ivica Propadalo.

'For the Festival we considered 300 compositions and it was not an easy task to choose the best' said Festival director Ivo Enjingi.

The Festival starts traditionally with 'Pozega vintage', followed by semi-finals night and the concert of Boris Ciro Gasparac. Friday is reserved for awards, songs and wine.

On the last tamburica festival night after the prize giving ceremony are the best tamburica performers, Kico Slabinac, as well as the best Croatian tamburica players, Slavonija lole and Slavonija dukati among others.

For the last ten years the Festival has its special wine, and this year it got also its first festival domestic brandy 'sljivovica', a gift from 25 members of the Pozega association of local natural products. Festival visitors will have chance to taste this special blend of the traditional brandy for the first time this year.
