British parents ask Dubrovnik court for proper punishment for their flag-stealing son

A British teen was given a six-month conditional sentence and banned from entering Croatia for two years after pinching Dubrovnik’s Flag of Liberty.
Jack Annison Bestwick, 18, was arrested in July during the city’s Summer Festival after climbing up a pole in Stradun square and taking the flag, which for centuries has been a symbol of the festival.
He was picked up by police after celebrity singer Ibrica Jusic spotted the flag missing and called the police.
At the trial in Dubrovnik, Bestwick’s parents John and Viviane told the court that they were from "high society" and that before returning to the UK, their son should be made to visit the city’s cultural and historical sites accompanied by an expert guide as a "proper punishment."
The judge agreed.
