Russian tycoon seeks asylum in Croatia

Russian industrialist Viktor Lavrenov (40), who currently resides in a villa in the exclusive Dubrovnik suburb of Lozica in southern Dalmatia, is seeking asylum in Croatia after German courts ordered his extradition, writes website Tportal.

Germany has requested the extradition of Lavrenov so he can serve his three year and four month prison sentence in Germany. Lavrenov was convicted of physically attacking a German tradesmen, who was working at his house, after he tried to seduce his wife.

Lavrenov has a chain of supermarkets, cafes and owns food production and wood processing factories with close to 1,000 workers. He is known for his battles with the Russian, German and Croatian justice systems.

Lavrenov is currently in Kutina in the centre for asylum seekers awaiting his extradition hearing. The Croatian Ministry of Internal Affairs will decide Lavrenov's fate and if the Russian industrialist can reamain in Croatia.
