More people emigrating each year from Croatia

More people emigrated overseas from Croatia in 2011 than immigrated into the country from overseas, resulting in a negative migration balance, according to statistics from the Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS) on the external and internal migration of the Croatian population.

Statistics show that last year 8,534 people from overseas migrated to Croatia, whilst 12,699 people emigrated from Croatia overseas. Out of those who immigrated to Croatia in 2011, 44.7 were foreign citizens whilst 55.3 per cent held Croatian citizenship.

Croatian citizens represented 75 per cent of those who emigrated overseas from Croatia last year, which foreign making up the rest. Some 43 per cent of new immigrants into Croatia came from Bosnia and Herzegovina last year, reported website dalje.com.
