Man jumps overboard on Korcula-Split ferry

Croatian Times

Staff aboard a ferry travelling from the Dalamtian island of Korcula to the city of Split yesterday morning had to deal with an usual drama when a passenger decided to jump from the ferry a few hundred meters from shore and swim the rest of the way.

The man sat quietly on the whole trip from the port of Vela Luka on Korcula to Split on the upper deck, calmly looking towards the sea, when around three hundred meters before the ferry reached Split, he jumped from deck, a fall of around eight meters.

Staff soon realised that the man had jumped over board and began preparations to rescue the man, but the 'jumper' yelled back to the staff that he did not want any help and that he was enjoying the swim.

Marine police soon came and transported the man to Split. It is yet to be determined if the man was under the influence of alcohol, reports daily newspaper 24sata.
