Croatians continue to lose faith in governing coalition

Croatian Prime Minister Jadranka Kosor’s popularity continues to dwindle in August, falling yet another three points compared to July.
The coalition government is not faring any better and continues to lose support despite its decision not to proceed with drastic salary, pension and social service cuts that were predicted for the recent budget rebalance.
The latest results of the Ipsos Puls agency’s monthly survey show that only one fifth of the population approves of the government’s plans for the country. Among coalition members, seventy three percent of Croatian Peasant Party (HSS) voters and 43 percent of Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ) voters do not support the government's moves.
The results confirm that even the voters of the governing coalition do not believe that the country is headed in the right direction, the daily Jutarnji List writes.
The main opposition Social Democratic Party (SDP) continues in the lead ahead of the majority HDZ, with 34.1 per cent of support or eight per cent more than HDZ.
