Defence Ministry silent over plane landing

Croatian Times

Defence Ministry officials have refused to comment after a plane was forced to make an emergency landing in the sea off Zadar today (Thurs).

Residents in the city watched on as the plane landed on the water and saw what they said was its pilot rescued by local police.

The pilot of the Canadair plane – owned by the Ministry of Defence and used in fire fighting operations – had reportedly radioed to authorities to say the aircraft had a ‘fault’ and that he could not land at the city’s airport. He then circled Zadar for an hour to use up fuel before bringing the plane down in the sea.

The plane was brought back to shore.

The Ministry of Defence has refused to comment on the incident but local media have claimed two other crew were in the plane at the time.
