One of Croatia's most popular tourist spots, the Makarska Riviera, on the Dalmatian coast, has had a bumper weekend with more than 45,000 local and foreign tourists descending to the area during the weekend, reports Croatian radiotelevision.
Hoteliers, which hosted around 11,500 tourists, were totally booked out during the weekend and some of the leading hotels along the riviera have even stopped taking bookings till late August.
"The third big weekend in July, after a good preseason and start to the summer, is confirmation of the quality tourist season for hoteliers, which should be successful in terms of the number of guests and the number of over night stays," said Josko Lelas, vice president of the Association of Employers in Croatian Hospitality.
