Croatia more than 26 billion Euros in debt

The Croatian government debt at the end of 2011 reached a massive 140.8 billion kuna (18 billion Euros), whilst loans for which the country were guarantors grew to 62.9 billion kuna (8.2 billion Euros), making the total debt more than 200 billion kuna (26 billion Euros), reports daily newspaper Novi list.

With regards to state guarantees, the most exposed are in the transport and shipbuilding sectors with 45 billion kuna (6.1 billion Euros) of guarantees relating to the transport sector and 9.78 billion kuna (1.2 billion Euros) in the shipbuilding industry. There is also a 900 billion kuna (10.2 billion Euros) credit in the tourism sector.

Of the total "net" government debt of 140, 8 billion kuna (18 billion Euros), 120.9 billion (16 billion Euros) of it is long-term debt, while 19.8 billion Euros (2.5 billion Euros) is short-term debt, and these are treasury bills maturing mostly in the period of one year.
