A group of Croatian entrepreneurs may go to Libya this autumn in a visit organized by former Croatian President Stjepan Mesic.
Former Mesic associate Stefanija Balog has confirmed that organization of another visit to that north African country is underway. Visitors will reportedly include representatives of Croatian firms interested in concrete projects in Libya.
Balog did not want to disclose the names of the firms, but it is suspected that the majority of them are in the construction sector, business portal Poslovni Dnevnik has reported.
The timeframe for the visit is not yet known. Balog said that, whereas previously meetings with Libyan head of state Muammar al-Gaddafi could have been scheduled 14 days ahead of time, today the situation was different because of great demand and the growing interest of European firms in that market. She hopes, however, that a meeting will take place this autumn.
According to the Croatian Chamber of Economy, five Croatian firms are doing business in Lybia: Adria Mar Shipbuilding, Crosco Libya, Geofizika, Montmontaža and the company Libya. Last year, Croatian firms exported 58 million Euros’ worth of goods to Libya, the highest figure since Croatia’s independence. Imports from Libya amounted to 2.1 million Euros.
Croatian Prime Minister Jadranka Kosor was in Libya on Wednesday to attend the celebration of the 41st anniversary of the Libyan revolution.
