Starbucks ´indefinitely´ postpones its arrival in Croatia

The American coffee chain Starbucks has "indefinitely" postponed the opening of a franchise in Croatia after having planned its arrival in the Croatian market this October.
The company reached its decision after careful monitoring of the market last year. "We believe that Croatia has good potential for Starbucks because Croats value good coffee. We will continue to evaluate the market and open a store in Croatia when the time is right," a Starbucks spokesperson said.
There are several possible reasons for Starbucks’ pull-back, the daily Jutarnji List has reported.
The company's weaker performance in crisis years 2008 and 2009 may be one of them. Another possible reason is the failure of British coffee chain Costa Coffee in the Croatian market.
Yet another possible reason is the coffee-drinking culture in Croatia, the daily has speculated, as Croats prefer to have their demitasses while seated rather than walk around with them in plastic cups.
