Croatia and Bosnia to build a bridge across the Sava River

Croatian Times

The Croatian and the Bosnia-Herzegovina governments should soon begin negotiations about construction of a bridge across the Sava River that forms the border between the two countries.

The two governments would share the cost of 300 million kuna (413,390 Euros) for the project that would be completed by 2012. An international public tender for construction of the 660-metre-long bridge will open in September, the Croatian daily Vecernji List has reported.

That was one of the announcements at today’s (Fri) Croatian government meeting at which the government also confirmed last week’s decision to abolish the crisis tax on monthly incomes between 3,000 and 6,000 kunas (409 to 819 Euros).

Deputy Prime Minister Ivan Suker said that the remaining crisis tax of four percent on incomes higher than 6,000 kunas a month would soon be discussed.

The Croatian government introduced the crisis tax in August 2009 in order to stabilize public finances. Since then, it has collected 1.67 billion kunas (approximately 230 million Euros).

Abolition of the tax on lower incomes is a measure that the government hopes will stimulate consumption, which has declined drastically in the last few months.
