People wanted budget cuts, but, when the government engaged in them, everyone screamed in protest, Prime Minister Jadranka Kosor said today (Weds).
Kosor, who was in the spotlight last week as she negotiated an agreement with farmers protesting planned cuts in state subsidies, addressed the media at the presentation of the second edition of "The Book of Missing Persons in Croatia."
"In a time of crisis, those who demand sacrifices must be ready to make them. You can’t say cut but don’t hurt me," she warned.
She said the government has already saved some 7.0 billion kuna (963,680.000 euros) in three budget revisions and was positive about the country’s outlook, Croatian business portal Poslovni has reported.
"Despite the pessimists, I think we will enter the year 2011 successfully, with our heads fully above the water," she said.
