A dim scrap metal crook whose axe melted when he tried to hack through a live 6,000 volt electrical railway cable is being hunted by police in Mostecti, Czech Republic.
"He's lucky to be alive. The blast must have knocked him right off his feet. He would have suffered serious burns," said police spokeswoman Ludmila Svetlakova.
"All we found when we turned up was a two foot hole from the explosion and the remains of the axe head," she added.
Railway officials say the blast paralysed the line for 12 hours while engineers restored the track's signalling system.
