An Austrian man who married a Scottish woman who died this year from ovarian cancer is walking from Austria to her home in Glasgow and scattering her ashes as he goes.
Simon Kynaston, 58, said: "Lizzie McIlwham was my wife for almost 30 years and the mother of our children.
"She was a proud Scot, an unforgettable inspirational mother to 3 sons and a true, green eyed, flame-haired Celtic princess if ever there was one."
He said that before she died she had hoped to visit the three places where she had lived, Glasgow, London and Paris, and that he now planned to walk from Austria to all three to carry out her wishes by leaving part of her there.
He said: "She wanted a part of her ashes to be placed under her favourite tree in our garden in Niederau, on the sunny side facing the mountain. This we have done. She also wished that some of her ashes were to be taken to the three places where she lived her life and where she has so many good friends and family.
"She wanted her friends to be able to have their own small goodbye ceremonies and for a part of her to be there always."
He set off on July 25 and added: "It will be our last adventure together, crossing Europe she loved so much. And going home to Scotland, 2,200 miles away."
He is also raising money for ovarian cancer research on the way via justgiving.com/lizzieswalk or on facebook at Lizzies Walk.
