Dresden: Official death report

An official report into the World War II bombing of Dresden by Allied forces has revealed that 25,000 died in the attack.
The study - ordered by the German city to end speculation about the number who died - examined official population, military and death records before and after the 1945 air attack.
Many believe that at least 50,000 died at Dresden and some far right neo-Nazi groups have claimed that more than 500,000 were killed.
But the report - delivered by the Dresden Historians' Commission after a five year study - shows that estimates of up to 25,000 made immediately after the war were correct.
The raid on Dresden, previously almost untouched by the war, sparked a firestorm which destroyed much of the historic city.
In February, 6,500 neo-Nazis rallied on the 65th anniversary of the raids aiming to stage a "funeral march" but were routed by 12,000 protesters.
