Miners are to start excavating tons of real-life Kryptonite, comic book hero Superman's only weakness.
Engineers in Serbia will this month begin searches for massive deposits of the crystal which shares the same chemical make-up as the man of steel's arch enemy.
It was discovered by Natural History Museum mineralogist Dr Chris Stanley when he was asked to identify a mystery substance unearthed in the country three years ago.
"I searched the web using the mineral's chemical formula - sodium lithium boron silicate hydroxide - and was amazed to discover that same scientific name, written on a case of a rock containing kryptonite stolen by Lex Luthor from a museum in the film Superman Returns.
"The new mineral does not contain fluorine - which it does in the film - and is white rather than green but, in all other respects, the chemistry is the same as the rock containing kryptonite," he explained.
