Elisabeth Fritzl and her family have been moved to a secret location where they can continue their recovery in private.
The
family were moved three weeks ago and the security team patrolling the
grounds and perimeter at the Amstetten Mauer clinic which was costing
the local council several thousand pounds a day has been cancelled.
One
insider told the Austrian Times: "When they came here it was hard even
for senior staff to get in - security was so tight. You had to show an
identity card and wait to be sear5ched. Now it's all back to normal now
that they have gone."
Dr Bernhard Kepplinger who is in charge of
the part of the clinic caring for Elisabeth and her family said: "There
were five security guards here a day. They were paid for by the local
government. There were also police patrols here."
Asked if Elisabeth was still on the hospital site with her family he said: "I am not allowed to disclose personal details."
The
family lawyer, Dr Christoph Herbst, also refused to discuss the
family's whereabouts. He said: "I am not allowed to say where they are
- I can neither confirm nor deny whether they are at Amstetten Mauer."
The
hospital insider, speaking to Austrian media on condition of anonymity,
said: "They are not here anymore. They and the security guards have
moved on. It was felt that a mental institution was not a suitable
place for healthy children to be. There are a lot of patients here that
the youngsters might find disturbing."
Amstetten Mauer officials were known to have been looking for
alternative accommodation at another medical facility in the area, but
had trouble getting one to accept them because of the same objections.
The
insider said: "They would have had to install the same security
measures as we had here - it was not an easy solution. However, I think
we have now solved it."
Staff from Amstetten Mauer are
continuing to care for the family, and one of the clinic's doctors has
been with Elisabeth during the interviews she is giving about her
ordeal to investigative judge Christoph Bauer.
The female doctor
has been helping Elisabeth to cope with the stress of recounting her
ordeal in the interviews which are expected to continue all this week.
