Hajduk defeats Dinamo 2-0 in Sunday football derby

Hajduk Split defeated Dinamo Zagreb by a score of 2-0 yesterday (Sun) in Split and took over first place in the Croatian First League.

Nikola Kalinic scored in the 45th minute (penalty kick), and Senijad Ibricic scored in the 51st minute for Hajduk in front of 33,000 spectators at "Poljud" stadium.

The game was delayed for 19 minutes by white confetti on the pitch thrown from the stadium roof by Hajduk fans.

Soon after the game started, another incident distracted viewers’ attention, a fight between the Bad Blue Boys (Dinamo fan club)and other Dinamo fans and the police that soon ended. The Bad Blue Boys burned seats, and firemen had to intervene. Seven fans were arrested.

Although Hajduk coach Ante Mise was aware that the game could have been much better, he said he was satisfied.

After the game he said: "We earned the win because we were better and we scored the goals at the right moments. Dinamo had no chance. We need to forget this game and concentrate on our next game with Inter Zapresic. We will do everything necessary to become champion."

Disappointed Dinamo coach Marijan Vlak said: "I congratulate Hajduk, for they were better and deserved to win. The second Hajduk goal was the result of our mistakes."

Some 800 policemen provided security at the game, and four of them were slightly injured.
The police arrested 84 Hajduk fans and 37 Dinamo fans before, during and after the game.
